Icefields Parkway |
|
The Icefields Parkway is aptly named. It's a 143-mile long road from Jasper to Lake Louise, and covers some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever encountered. It parallels the Continential Divide. Around every curve it seems there are scenic overlooks where you can pull off and enjoy the view. |

Our first scenic stop was at Athabasca Falls, just a few miles south of Mt. Edith Cavell. There are many waterfalls throughout these mountains, but this seems to be one of the most massive and impressive. From the pull-off from the Parkway into the parking lot, it was just a very short stroll onto the bridge which crosses downriver from the falls. Overlooking viewpoints were available from either side of the bridge. |

Then just a short drive south on the Parkway took us to the glacier country.

Note
how high the snow is piled on top of these mountains! |
