Icefields Parkway

The Icefields Parkway is aptly named. It's a 143-mile long road from Jasper to Lake Louise, and covers some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever encountered. It parallels the Continential Divide. Around every curve it seems there are scenic overlooks where you can pull off and enjoy the view.

Our first scenic stop was at Athabasca Falls, just a few miles south of Mt. Edith Cavell. There are many waterfalls throughout these mountains, but this seems to be one of the most massive and impressive.

From the pull-off from the Parkway into the parking lot, it was just a very short stroll onto the bridge which crosses downriver from the falls. Overlooking viewpoints were available from either side of the bridge.

Then just a short drive south on the Parkway took us to the glacier country.

Note how high the snow is piled on top of these mountains!
