The Scheepvaart Museum (Ship Yard Museum) is housed in a grand building on the harbor. It contains a vast collection of models, reconstructions, real-life small boats, maritime paintings, and lots of paraphernalia from old ships (like china and cutlery). Adjacent to the museum are several boats maintained by the museum, including the full-size model of a Dutch East Indiaman, the Amsterdam. You can go aboard the ship and tour the cabins, the map room, the hold, and captain's quarters, and actors play the parts of actual period seamen. |

A pleasant hike east took us to one of the few windmills still to be seen within Amsterdam. It's now a cafe. On the way back to our apartment, we stopped by the Oosterpark to feed the ducks (Tom's favorite pasttime)!
