The Colosseum

One of my regrets from many years ago was that I didn't enter the Colosseum. The ticket was a little expensive for a college student touring on a dime. So this trip, I really wanted to go through the interior. I was dismayed at the lines, when we first went (thousands of tourists), but by early afternoon we were able to walk right in.

We had walked past it many times in the late afternoon and at night, where the dramatic lights made for quite a presentation.

But seeing it in the daylight was really a different experience. I enjoyed seeing how the stands were arranged in tiers. I couldn't (still can't) quite understand how and where people set.

From the inside, the space seemed even larger.
The floor was quite massive. There was a partial reconstructed floor near one end, which Tom and I both thought helped you understand how it would have looked originally, and get a sense of perspective on the size.
