In many ways, walking around in San Lorenzo was my favorite part of the trip. It was a very small town with the sensibilities of a Fellini movie! They were celebrating the holiday with a big display in their plaza featuring nativity scenes, Roman soldiers, farmers, camels and donkeys, pigs and chickens and parrots all hand-made from styrofoam.
I of course get caged with the parrots!

The entire downtown area was covered with these figures and scenes. And the town was hopping with families getting ready for the arrival of the magi. |

Then we decided to start walking uphill. Shortly we were in the mountains surrounding the town, walking through absolutely lovely residential areas, with enormous houses and beautiful grounds and architecture.

The details on some of the houses were quite fun! |

Walking back toward the train station, we were treated to stunning views, both of the palace and the town at sunset. |
