| Visiting Mevagissey and Port Mellon was my favorite part of the trip, I think. I really enjoyed "ordinary" things, like shopping for groceries in the Tessco in St. Austell (what a great storeif there were more than one person in any line, they would open up another cashier JUST for you!). I managed to cope with the coins, and Tom bagged (there were no baggers in England, and I couldn't handle the plastic bags well). I actually celebrated Christmas with a traditional Pudding! | |||

We spent Christmas day in Mevagissey. We walked around town a bit, then went to the Sharksfin Hotel (the white building near the left of the photo) for a pint or two of Christmas cheer. There we were entertained by the locals, including a very somber (not sober) elderly gent who fell asleep over his gin, and an aristocratic young woman drinking tea and reading a novel, with her stocking feet propped up. The next day, we explored Mevagissey. We visited the local church and read 400-year old tombstones. Then we walked the narrow, winding streets up in the hills. |

On the 27th, we visited Tintagel, which legend claims is the site of King Arthur's court, on the north coast of Cornwall. Having survived the "road of intimations of death," we arrived at a little town of tourist spots, leading to an absolutely magnificent cliff-haven managed by the National Trust. |
