Our last day in Cornwall we spent at Bodmin Moor. Although the moor was not what we expected (it was more like a giant cow pasture), it still held clear traces of history and natureand gorse.

Before traipsing across the moor, we had lunch at Jamaica Inn (of Daphne du Maurier and smuggler fame). It was what one would expect: low ceilings, dark wood, red leather, and in the middle of no-where. I had a Cornish pasty for lunch (I believe it was kidney, so I'll probably now get Mad Cow Disease). Then we went roaming across Bodmin Moor. |

Although it was sleeting and snowing when we arrived, by the afternoon the sun had broken through and the moor shone.

We hiked a few miles to Dozmary Pool, the legendary location of the Lady in the Lake who holds Arthur's sword until his successor returns. No lady on this day, but lots of coots and moorhens, a snipe, and a very rambunctious, friendly, neighborhood dog. |
