My Vacation Diary

January 1-January 2

In our last week, we decided to try to hit some of the "tourist spots" we hadn't already visited. High on my list was the Tower of London. My main reaction to it (compared to my memory of 25 years ago) was that it was much more crowded and Disneyesque than before—which wasn't "bad," just different.

The Tower and the views of Tower Bridge were spectacular.

We also decided to take in a play (definitely one of the highlights of the trip). We debated several, before deciding on "The Lady in Black." It didn't star famous actors, but was clearly the best selection for us to see. It was a ghost story, told in inimitable British style--guaranteed to make you scream! Small theatre, great acting.

Then we fed the ducks! And geese! The graylag, pochards, moorhens, gadwalls, coots, tufted ducks, Canada geese, ferruginous ducks, red-crested pochards, mallards, black swans, and more. I think this was Tom's favorite part of the sight-seeing. He carried bread crumbs around with us every where we went.
